MERCURY THERMOMETERS AND THERMOSTATS
 
The District operates a Mercury Thermometer Exchange.  Residents can exchange a mercury thermometer (and one dollar) and receive a digital thermometer.  Most Board of Health or Selectmen's offices participate.  Thermostats are also accepted.

FLUORESCENT BULBS
 
Fluorescent bulbs are great for saving energy but did you know that they contain mercury?
 
Please bring your burntout bulbs to your town's collection site listed below.

The mercury is dispersed into the air when a bulb is broken.  Should a bulb break, it is recommended that you leave the area for 30 minutes.
 
Greenberg's, Curran Highway, North Adams will accept up to 6 CFL's (compact fluorescent bulbs).  Home Depot in Pittsfield also accepts CFLs.
